Yvonne is an older lady (70) who has devoted much of her life to caring for abandoned animals. She currently lives in a field with 27 dogs (and cats) now she needs some help. She does not want to abandon her dogs, but is no longer able to care for them and herself. Her husband is in a nursing home and Yvonne needs to be able to spend time with him, but does not have a permanent place to live or keep these dogs. Foster homes and permanent homes are needed. Kern County Animal Control will not take in Owner surrendered dogs, and most of these dogs, if picked up and impounded as strays would not be able to pass the temperament test without some training and socialization. They have lived much of their lives chained. Can you find it in your heart to give one of them a chance at a life that includes freedom?
UPDATE: All dogs made it to safety through animal rescue efforts. Karen has tenderly cared for Yvonne ever since in helping her get on her feet, through the system, and into a home, and is still helping animals... and this woman, but in a much better way, and Karen is still helping her with this. This woman's husband passed away in the midst of this (he was in a nursing home) and Karen drove her everywhere and took care of her every need through all of this.
Never let it be said that animal rescuers don't help humans. Not only do we do that through our general work, but often we help them directly.
